What’s Up With Botox?

Botox is a trade name for botulinum toxin A, derived from a bacterium Clostridium botulinum. By its basic nature, Botox is related to botulism, which is a form of food poisoning that occurs when someone ingests something containing a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. But Botox owes much of its contemporary fame to the fact that when injected into the skin in measured doses it helps in removing wrinkles (Top 5 Sites).

In its cosmetic form, Botox is a purified protein derived from Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. A small amount of Botox injected into a muscle will block nerve signals that instruct your muscles to contract. In doing that Botox temporarily weakens or paralyzes the facial muscles and smoothes or eliminates wrinkles in the skin for a period of few months.

During the process of treatment very minute doses of Botox cosmetic is administered via a tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn wrinkle lines. In usual cases the Botox treatment lasts for about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within a matter of two to three days, the patients may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Though results are known to vary from person to person depending on their medical history and lifestyle.

I have a friend whose wife of many years, acquired numerous wrinkles around her mouth and squint lines around her eyes. I think a lot of those wrinkles were the result of sitting outside in the extremely comfortable cedar log furniture scattered about in their amazing professionally landscaped back yard with its fabulous mountain views. Over the years while she sat and smoked, staring through binoculars and cataloging birds, the northern white cedar outdoor furniture she sat upon slowly aged to a lovely silver grey. All the outside furniture was made from Northern White cedar- not red cedar. Consequently, the outdoor cedar log seating, patio bar seats and tables, the garden bridge and rose arbor were all low maintenance and insect resistant with a guarantee that they would last about 15 to 20 years outside, weathering to that soft silver grey (that I previously mentioned) if left unfinished. And they did last that long- a good twenty years! I was told that if the furniture had been stained or varnished applied so they would have lasted a lot longer. The white cedar is amazing wood. Unfortunately Ms. XX (as I shall name her) and her face did not age as well. Of course there are other reasons why she has so many wrinkles. I am sure the worries that accompanied her older son’s teenage and then college years didn’t help. For instance the time he texted her (accidentally he said) regarding at home std testing kits. Apparently he foolishly had unprotected sex during some frat party with who knows how many coeds and a buddy of his told him that another young man at the same party had symptoms of what might be gonorrhea. Everyone started freaking out, but nobody wanted to go to the school’s health clinic. So he was texting a friend about whether he could buy an std kit online and test himself. His mother was very cool and did a google search herself, found a site and just texted him back the url. She never mentioned the text the next time they spoke. Even today, she doesn’t know if he realized whom he had texted that most unexpected question. But it did add some worry lines. Anyway with the outdoor exposure, surviving three boys, plus everything else life throws you….it’s not surprising that botox treatments are so popular!

The Botox injection itself will generally set you back around $500 per injection depending on which surgeon you visit. This will then be accompanied by other fees associated to the procedure so the likelihood is that depending on the type of procedure you might be lucky to get out of the hospital under $1000. What many people don’t realize is that to remain effective Botox injections need to be taken every approximately 6 months. If you can foresee that there will be a problem affording the continual outlay of this type of cash Botox probably isn’t for you.
Many other possible health benefits of Botox are currently under investigation. Mild amounts of Botox can also help cure ailments such as blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking) and strabismus (lazy eye). According to a new study, Botox injections into the prostate ease symptoms and improve quality of life for men with enlarged prostate. Botox has also been found effective in treating migraine patients.

Botox is pretty easy to find these days. Sometimes people like to get away from their home towns and get treated else where, come back and feel revived. If this sounds like you, medical travel might be the perfect fit. You can travel abroad, relax, have your botox treatment and return feeling like a whole new you!
