What is a Background Check?

A background check is a legal search that can be conducted by an individual or a company in order to obtain information about a person.  The following are some of the reasons why background checks are usually conducted:

• Check out potential employees  
• Check out a contractor before they access your home
• Check out a doctor before you put yourself in his or her hands
• Check out a teacher or coach that you do not feel right
• Check out a potential tenant before you rent a room or apartment
• Check out someone you are considering dating
• Check out a nanny or caregiver
• Check out a suspicious neighbor

These searches are completely confidential and the subject of the search will not be notified that a search has been conducted.

What Is Included In A Background Search?

There are a variety of different searches that may make up a Background Check and the information available differs from state to state.

BUSINESS CREDIT REPORT

This search reveals the credit history of a company by listing the types of accounts opened, the established credit limit, the payment terms on each account, the current balance, payment history, and information concerning bankruptcies, tax liens, UCC filings.

BUSINESS INFORMATION REPORT

This search provides a detailed report that reveals background information about the company and its officers. The report may include banking references, current assets, sales, liabilities, profits, bankruptcies, liens, and judgments.

CREDIT REPORT

A nationwide search listing an individual's credit history. Only available for employment or tenant screening purposes along with a signed disclosure & release statement from the subject of the search.

CIVIL SEARCH

A search listing litigation filed with a court against an individual or business in a particular county. Does not include pending or dismissed cases.

CRIMINAL HISTORY SEARCH

Search for felonies and misdemeanors on an individual in a particular county, state, or nationwide. Criminal records can usually be searched for 7-12 years.

How Long Does It Take To Get Results?

Results for most searches will be returned to you in 2 - 3 days.

• Other proprietary databases
